With Christmas just hours away, it’s likely the DOJ is feeling less than festive. The release of the Epstein files last Friday was never going to be plain sailing. Still, few in the department could have predicted the fast-moving power struggle that has arisen between themselves, Congress, and survivors/advocates.

Under heavy public scrutiny, the DOJ’s framing is telling. The Epstein Library website says it will be updated if more documents are found, with Department messaging repeatedly saying that the release is rolling rather than one-and-done.

And that’s the opening for a new chapter. Perhaps the final part of a saga that seems longer in the making than a George R.R. Martin sequel.

Why? Certainly not because the DOJ wants another round. Instead, it will come because there are now three major pressure points that may force one.
