Mayor Frey Slams ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ After Deadly School Shooting
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected “thoughts and prayers” after a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School left two kids dead and 17 injured.
Students were “literally praying” when the gunman fired through church windows on Wednesday. “These were Minneapolis families. These were American families… They should be able to go to school or church in peace without the fear or risk of violence,” Frey said.
Police said the suspect, in his early 20s, died of a self-inflicted gunshot. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called it a “deliberate act of violence” and decried “the sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children.”
Frey added: “Children are dead. There are families that have a deceased child… Every one of us needs to be wrapping our arms around these families, giving them every ounce that we can muster.”
