The Ivy League school is blasting claims it went easy on students accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Chi Phi fraternity house in 2024. The woman claims seven fraternity members assaulted her after she became incapacitated and alleges they were allowed to mitigate their conduct by writing essays.
Cornell insists essays were never the “sole consequence,” saying punishments included expulsions and suspensions, and called suggestions of minimal consequences “irresponsible.”
No criminal charges were previously filed, but prosecutors are now taking the allegations to a grand jury.
Cornell says this was no slap on the wrist – now a grand jury gets the next word.

Christa Pike is running out of time.
The Tennessee Supreme Court has refused to delay the 50-year-old killer’s September 30 execution for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer.
Pike’s lawyer argued lethal injection could be torturous due to her blood condition and that being restrained and monitored by male officers could trigger PTSD tied to childhood sexual abuse.
But the court sided with the state, finding no demonstrated evidence her condition would cause undue suffering. Pike previously even asked to be executed by hanging instead – a request that was also rejected.
Her attorney isn’t giving up, with more last-minute appeals expected before Wednesday.
