An Arizona father has pleaded guilty in the hot-car death of his 2-year-old daughter – a move prosecutors call “justice” for the toddler.
Christopher Scholtes changed his plea just days before trial, admitting to one Count of Second-Degree Murder and one Count of Intentional/Knowing Child Abuse “under Circumstance Likely to Cause Death or Serious Physical Injury,” the Pima County Attorney’s Office told KEEPING TABS.
His sentences will run consecutively with a range of 20 to 30 years of “flat time,” meaning no early release: “We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our prosecutors… to get justice for victims,” the office said.
According to prosecutors, Scholtes left little Parker in 109-degree heat for more than three hours while he drank stolen beer, played video games, and searched porn – and she died because of it.
Scholtes is scheduled to be sentenced November 21.
