If the hospitalized senator dies in office, a special election would pit GOP hopeful Andy Barr against Democrat Charles Booker. Barr may have the red-state advantage, but analyst Christopher Lee warned the “Toxicity of Trump” is making even Republican-friendly races tougher.
“Trump’s favorability numbers in Kentucky started out strongly positive for the GOP. Six months later, the picture is very different,” Lee said.

Prosecutors alleged Robinson confessed to fatally shooting Charlie Kirk in messages to former roommate and romantic partner Lance Twiggs.
Twiggs, who now goes by Luna, was allegedly told to “look underneath the keyboard” before Robinson wrote, “I am. I’m sorry,” when asked if he was joking.
“I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out,” Robinson allegedly wrote. Twiggs later said Robinson cried and said he wishes he hadn’t done it.

A German palliative-care doctor accused of turning bedside care into a killing spree has been sentenced to life.
Johannes M., 41, was convicted of murdering 15 patients with “deadly cocktails” of sedatives, while prosecutors alleged he sometimes set fires to cover his tracks.
“I despair at myself,” he said in court. Prosecutors are now probing 76 additional deaths potentially tied to him.
He was meant to ease suffering – prosecutors say he made it permanent.
