Joseph Duggar Allegedly Confessed on Phone Call Set Up by Accuser's Father, Affidavit Claims
Authorities say he admitted touching a minor during a recorded call, as multiple charges now stack across two states.
Joseph Duggar was arrested after what authorities describe as a critical moment in the case – a phone call in which he allegedly confessed to inappropriate contact with a minor.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit filed by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, the call was arranged.
Investigators asked the father of the alleged victim to place the call – and listen as Duggar spoke.
The affidavit claims Duggar first admitted wrongdoing to the father on the night of March 17, just hours before law enforcement moved in.
During the call, authorities allege he acknowledged touching the minor “over her clothing” and admitted that “his intentions were not pure.”
That conversation would become central to the case.
It was included in the affidavit that secured a warrant for Duggar’s arrest – leading to his detention the following day in Arkansas.
The allegations stem from a reported incident during a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach, when the accuser was nine years old.
In a forensic interview with a detective, the now-14-year-old described multiple instances of inappropriate contact.
According to the affidavit, she told investigators Duggar would pull a blanket over them before touching her thighs and gradually moving closer to her waistline. She alleged that at one point, he made contact with her genital area over clothing.
The alleged victim also told police that Duggar later apologized and said no further incidents occurred after that.
That interview – conducted by the Tontitown Police Department in Arkansas – was forwarded to Florida authorities because the alleged incident occurred within their jurisdiction.
After reviewing the details, Deputy Sheriff Darrell Norris requested the recorded call between Duggar and the victim’s father – a move that appears to have accelerated the case.
From there, the process moved quickly.
Duggar was booked into the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on March 18.
Two days later, he signed a waiver of extradition, clearing the way for transfer to Florida, where he is expected to face two felony counts of lewd and lascivious behavior – including one involving a victim under the age of 12.
He has not yet been transferred.
Separately, Duggar and his wife Kendra Duggar, have also been charged in Arkansas with multiple counts related to child endangerment and false imprisonment.
Authorities have made clear that those charges are unrelated to the Florida case, but they add another layer of legal pressure to an already serious situation.
