Read Word-for-Word: Explosive DOJ Court Filing Reveals Cole Tomas Allen's Alleged Plot to Assassinate Donald Trump
Prosecutors seek detention as court docs detail the alleged plot & timeline.
The Department of Justice is laying out a chilling case against alleged gunman Cole Tomas Allen – arguing he should remain behind bars as they detail what they call a “premeditated, violent, and calculated” attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump.
In a newly filed Government’s Memorandum in Support of Pretrial Detention, prosecutors claim Allen, 31, “attempted to kill the President of the United States” during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026 – one of the most high-profile political events of the year.
According to the filing, the suspect allegedly sprinted through a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, a .38 caliber pistol, knives and a large supply of ammunition.
Authorities say he then fired toward the staircase leading down to the ballroom, where Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and top officials were gathered.
What prosecutors say happened next – and how the alleged plot unfolded – is even more chilling. Read the full documents below:
