Hollywood’s latest “true story” drama just turned into a real-life courtroom battle.

Miami-Dade officers Jason Smith and Jonathan Santana have filed a federal lawsuit accusing the Netflix film The Rip – tied to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck – of ripping from their real 2016 $21.9 million drug bust and turning it into a fictional story of corruption, murder, and betrayal.

According to the complaint, the film copied “distinctive elements” of the case – including cash hidden in orange buckets inside walls, a money-sniffing dog and a TEC-9 firearm – while portraying officers as criminals.

The lawsuit claims the movie was marketed as “‘inspired by true events’” while depicting “fabricated criminal misconduct,” creating the impression the real cops were involved.

And the fallout allegedly got personal.
