President Donald Trump’s administration has suffered a major courtroom setback in its immigration crackdown after a federal judge tossed the government’s lawsuit seeking to force a Michigan county to cooperate more closely with ICE.
According to court documents obtained by THE VAULT, U.S. District Judge F. Kay Behm granted Washtenaw County’s motion to dismiss in – but the ruling goes far beyond simply rejecting the Trump administration’s case.
In her blistering 86-page decision, Behm repeatedly takes aim at the government’s arguments, accusing Washington of being unwilling to take “no” for an answer and even describing one of its claims as “novel.”
And in perhaps the biggest blow, the judge declares the federal government cannot force local authorities to provide their jails, property and resources to carry out Trump’s immigration priorities.
